Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple


Tirupati  is an ancient town associated with the Vaishnava Mentor, Sri Ramanuja , who  guided that one can get mukthi through only chanting  NARAYANA mantram that is  'Namo Naryana naya'. He founded Govindaraja swamy temple in 1130 A.D and started a small settlement round it and named it Tirupati. Several new shrines like kodanda ramaswamy temple, narsimha swamy temple shrine and kapileswara swamy temple were also built in different parts of Tirupati. Sri Govindarajaswamy temple, is very near to Tirupati railway station. The deity Sri Govindarajaswamy is in a reclining pose.He is considered to be Lord Venkateswara's brother. It has an imposing seven-storey 'Gopuram'. The temple came in for greater importance in 1506 A.D. during the rule of Saluva Dynasty of Vijayanagara.There are Sri Andal, Sri Parthasarathy and Sri Venkateswara in  the temple
